Fieldston Lodge provides round the clock medical care in the skilled nursing facility. Our Medical Director and attending physicians are on-call 24/7 to ensure that residents’ medical conditions are closely monitored. In conjunction with other departments, the doctors implement a comprehensive treatment plan for each resident.

 

Residents are evaluated promptly upon admission and are seen continuously as needed. The presence of a care extender, such as a Physician’s Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner, throughout the day insures prompt attention to possible acute medical problems, thereby reducing the need for hospitalization and shortening the time for any concerns to be addressed.

 

Fieldston also provides care for those suffering from chronic pain.  This specialized approach to pain management helps those afflicted with arthritis, diabetes, circulatory disorders, paralysis and contractures. Each resident is assessed upon admission and re-assessed periodically for pain. A comprehensive plan is then developed which actively works to relieve pain and symptoms which interfere with the residents’ quality of life.

 

The Medical Department is assisted by outside physicians, a nursing staff and numerous allied health care professionals. Many specialists are brought in to see residents in-house, where possible, including ophthalmology, optometry, audiology, cardiology, dermatology, pulmonology, and urology, among others. Additionally, many medical and laboratory tests are done in the facility, all in an effort to reduce the stress and frustration of multiple appointments in a multitude of settings.
