The Neighborhood

Riverdale's winding, tree-lined streets and stately single-family homes may make you think you're not even in New York City anymore. This suburban enclave in the northwestern Bronx is one of the few places in New York City where you’ll find stately single-family homes, rock walls, winding roads (some without sidewalks) and mature trees.

Whether you're looking for a pint of ale and an evening of original Irish-inspired theater, a cricket match between West Indian devotees or a step back in time at Colonial-era Van Cortlandt House, Riverdale is full of surprises. Van Cortlandt Park, on Riverdale’s eastern border, is twice the size of Central Park and attracts hikers and mountain bikers. It’s also home to the Bronx’s largest freshwater lake, a nature center that offers workshops and walking tours, plus vast cricket fields.

Food and Menu

Our dietary department along with our devoted kitchen staff meticulously plans, prepares and delivers nutritious and appetizing meals incorporating seasonal and cultural diversity. Menus are individualized according to the resident's preferences and within their dietary requirements, offering a wide variety of menu options. Registered dietitians are responsible for evaluating resident nutritional requirements and for counseling residents on all aspects of adequate nutrition principles.

Recreation

Social, creative and intellectual stimulation are key to a resident's emotional and physical well-being.

Therapeutic Recreation programs – exercise programs, arts and crafts, gardening, games, live music, engaging discussion, and much more are designed for each resident's individual ability, providing an opportunity for self-expression and encouraging social interaction. Live entertainment, religious services and wellness programs are part of the recreation program that promotes an enriched, healthy leisure lifestyle.
